Difference between painted and spray primer

I originally started off using Vallejo arcylic primer on my 3D prints, although what I noticed is that when applying color to the models, you would see brush marks. I have since moved to using spray can primer, which makes a huge difference as you can see below.

My first Final Fantasy model was Tonberry (one of my favourite enemies!) and as you can see, the green paint did not apply evenly to the model. I later printed another model and used the Humbrol spray primer for the first time and the difference is night and day, removing brush strokes when applying colour. I did opt to use a lighter green this time and feel the results show.
